Dermal Fillers

Posted on September 26, 2008 at 1:36 pm

Dermal fillers are much different than Botox. Whereas Botox weakens muscles, dermo fillers actually fill crease lines. And there are a number of different dermal fillers and there are advantages and disadvantages to each one. And actually every year new fillers are becoming available. What we’re striving to do is find a filler that’s very long lasting but gives a very natural appearance. Juvoderm and restolin are two of the most common dermal fillers. They are hiloronic gel that’s injected in the bottom part of the skin which plumps it very nicely. Radies is another common filler which lasts a little bit longer and we use in nasolabial folds but we don’t use it in the lip for augmentation very often because sometimes it can produce small lumps. Sculptra is a little bit different, it’s not a dermal filler but it’s a volumizer. It’s for people that have sunken cheeks or deficient fat in the central portion of their face, where a mid face lift may not give them the results that they need or they may want to avoid surgery. Sculptra over time helps your body build collagen and give it much more natural, fuller appearance to the face. So usually when someone comes in to thinking about wrinkles I discuss all of these different types of fillers with them. There are also fillers now that are permanent that we can use, but I never use them on the first time the person’s having a filler. Better to see what the results are, and if you like it then we can go to the more permanent filler.
