Areola Reduction
The appearance of large nipples can be reduced through a simple procedure known as areola reduction surgery. The dark-skinned area around the nipple, called the areola, can be reduced through the removal of excess tissue. Dr. LoVerme will make a small incision around the area and extract this excess tissue, then reshape and resize the areola. There is generally minimal scarring, and what little there is can be difficult to detect. The whole procedure typically only lasts about one to two hours under general anesthesia, and the patient is usually able to return to a normal routine within a couple of days. Areola reduction surgery is often performed in tandem with breast reduction and breast lift procedures, also available at our Northern New Jersey practice.
Inverted Nipple Correction
Nipples that project inward rather than outward can affect breastfeeding as well as self-esteem. Dr. LoVerme offers a procedure that can reverse the projection of the nipples without cutting nerves and the milk-ducts, so that patients can maintain nipple sensitivity and the ability to breastfeed. The procedure can also enhance the natural beauty of a woman’s breasts, restoring self-confidence in the process. Inverted nipple correction can also be beneficial to male patients and men who suffer from gynecomastia. The procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis and involves only a brief recovery time. Although inverted nipple correction is often performed to help with breastfeeding complications, there is no way to guarantee its effectiveness in such cases.
