Dr. Paul LoVerme customizes mommy makeover treatments to help women address common cosmetic concerns that can result from pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Verona, NJNew Jersey plastic surgeon Paul LoVerme, MD understands that motherhood can be as demanding as it is rewarding. In addition to the time and energy needed to raise children, pregnancy and breastfeeding can often take a toll on the body. To help mothers boost their self-image while doing something for themselves, Dr. LoVerme customizes mommy makeover procedures at his practice for women interested in comprehensive body rejuvenation.

According to Dr. LoVerme, “The changes many mothers experience – including fat accumulations, stretched abdominal muscles, loose/excess skin, and drooping or sagging of the breasts – cannot always be reversed with diet and exercise alone.” A mommy makeover can be custom designed to address several or all of these concerns simultaneously by combining procedures such as abdominoplasty, liposuction, breast augmentation, and/or mastopexy. Afterward, many women are able to achieve a more youthful figure while also feeling a renewed sense of confidence.

Though the prospect of such a significant change can be exciting, Dr. LoVerme advises his patients to consider their own unique circumstances when deciding the best time to undergo a mommy makeover. “First of all, it is recommended that you wait until after you are done having children to receive a mommy makeover, as the outcomes of your operation could be compromised by the stretching of skin and other changes that may be experienced during and/or after any additional pregnancies,” says Dr. LoVerme. He goes on to highlight that continued fluctuations in weight, skin elasticity, and breast shape are common for many women in the months following pregnancy and breastfeeding. As a result, he suggests patients allow time for their bodies to stabilize before considering plastic surgery.

The recovery period for a mommy makeover typically ranges from two to three weeks, depending upon which procedures are performed, notes Dr. LoVerme. Although most patients can return to their daily activities after this period, he cautions that certain strenuous activities such as heavy lifting may still be restricted for approximately six weeks. To help ensure his patients get adequate rest and safely recover after their mommy makeover, Dr. LoVerme recommends scheduling the procedure for a time when they can have assistance with caring for their children and completing everyday tasks. After this time, he adds, mothers can often look forward to resuming their normal routines with renewed self-esteem and a rejuvenated appearance.
